NORTHEAST ASSOCIATION OF RAIL SHIPPERS (NEARS)
The Northeast Association of Rail Shippers (NEARS) is a professional organization dedicated to improve the lines of communication between railroads, suppliers and shippers. This is an excellent organization for networking, communication, and staying informed of the changing rail industry landscape. NEARS' territory includes Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the District of Columbia, and the Canadian Provinces of Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime Provinces. If your business is outside of this territory, you may be interested in one of NEARS' sister organizations: SEARS (Southeast Association of Rail Shippers), MARS (Midwest Association of Rail Shippers), SWARS (Southwest Association of Rail Shippers) or PNWARS (Pacific Northwest Association of Rail Shippers).
NORTH AMERICAN RAIL SHIPPERS ASSOCIATION (NARS)
The North American Rail Shippers Association (NARS) is the umbrella organization that links 5 regional shipping organizations together to cover the entire United States, Canada and Mexico. The regional organizations are NEARS, SEARS, MARS, SWARS and PNWARS (see above). The NARS organization meets annually on topical rail issues, and is an excellent networking opportunity.
AMERICAN SOCIETY OF TRANSPORTATION AND LOGISTICS (AST&L)
The American Society of Transportation and Logistics (AST&L) is a professional organization to facilitate education in supply chain logistics and management. You can earn credits and certifications in the logistics field through the AST&L. This organization is recommended for its professionalism, its high standards, and its widely recognized and respected programs.
THE TRAFFIC CLUB OF NEW YORK
The Traffic Club of New York is a professional logistics organization with member from throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Membership includes professionals and executives in manufacturing, freight forwarding, steamship lines, railroads, intermodal transportation, consulting, freight brokerage, ports, and other professions. This is an excellent organization for education and networking.
